More than 10,000 registered attendees took part in the day 1 sessions of Citrix Synergy at the Anaheim Convention Center, which opened with a number of announcements and product upgrades, but not before the iBand kicked it off with a couple of loud rock anthems played on their iPads – quite impressive.

The show’s key theme continues to center on conference’s namesake – specifically, multiple services and products working together in synergy to deliver business ready mobile workspaces.

Notable announcements in the mobility space include a new release of Citrix’s enterprise mobility management platform, XenMobile 9.  Enhancements to its user experience, platform security and support, as well as management integrations that improve its scalability. Specifically in its components, WorxMail adds new features to its UX to make corporate mailboxes easier to navigate and ideally, reduce the time needed to get through it. Updates to WorxEdit make it easier to edit attached documents received through WorxMail on mobile devices.

XenMobile also added support for Windows Phone 8, allowing enterprises to now manage its Android, iOS and now Windows Phone device in a single platform.

An update to WorxWeb, which is a browser that can be secured according to IT policies, is simplified with a new UI and now supports offline viewing of webpages.

Several enhancements to its workflow-driven productivity apps were also highlighted on day 1. WorxNotes – allows users to more easily capture notes and ideas through an on-device application and share them through WorxMail or ShareFile.

Citrix also announced a comprehensive platform for setting up mobile workspaces, called Citrix Workspace Suite. This platform unites many of al-la-carte services Citrix offers for virtualization, mobility and cloud services into a single and simpler solution to deploy. It also announced a collaborative agreement with Cisco that merges its new Workspace Suite with Cisco’s unified access and security technologies and sold as Cisco Mobile Workspace with Citrix.
